The best ten Oklahoma wins of the new century...

All summer long, Oklahomans have been voting on the best ten Oklahoma football wins of the new century. One week before the kickoff of the 2008 college football season, the list is complete as follows:

10: Oklahoma 20, Alabama 13 - September 6, 2003, Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Why? Because even when Alabama is not their best, they alone have a football tradition that equals or surpasses Oklahoma. Oklahoma believes any win over 'Bama is an historic win.

9: Oklahoma 41, Kansas State 31 - October 14, 2000, Manhattan, Kansas. Why? Because KSU was ranked #2 in the year that a barely top-ten Oklahoma would go on to win the National Championship.

8: Oklahoma 12, Texas 0 (You'll see a lot of Texas games in this list; they are very important) - October 9, 2004, Dallas, Texas. Why? Because no one shut out Vince Young (except Oklahoma).

7: Oklahoma 14, Texas 3 - October 6, 2001, Dallas, Texas. Why? Because this hard fought game was an epic Red River shootout in the Jason White era that saw Oklahoma continue its dominance over Texas.

6: Oklahoma 38, Missouri 17 - December 1, 2007, San Antonio, Texas. You'll see some previous posts on this blog about this game. Why? Because Mizzou was media-hyped and overblown and had never played in the big leagues before this Big 12 Championship game. Oklahoma's machine took Cinderella apart to win the conference.

And now on the to the serious history makers:

5: Oklahoma 35, Texas A&M 31 - November 11, 2000, College Station, Texas. Why? Because this game was played before the largest crowd to EVER watch a football game in the Republic of Texas. That is saying a lot, seeing how Texas counts football as second only to Moses and the Burning Bush. LOL. A&M was the only unbeaten team in the nation when Oklahoma took them on in this nail-biter. Watch Video Highlights

4: Oklahoma 31, Nebraska 14 - October 28, 2000, Norman, Okla. I will never forget this game. Why? Because it continued Oklahoma's storied rivalry with the Huskers, who were ranked #1 in the year that Oklahoma would take on the heralded Black Shirt defense and then go on to win the National Championship. Watch Video Highlights. But be warned, there is no commentary in this video, only the ear-splitting, never ending roars of the Oklahoma crowd can be heard.

3: Oklahoma 65, Texas 13 - October 11, 2003, Dallas, Texas. This is also a game I will never forget. Why? Because Bob Stoops unleashed Oklahoma's short man (5' 7" or so) , Quentin Griffith, on Texas to the tune of five touchdowns. Never before had one player scorned the 'Horns in such a manner. Watch Video Highlights.

2. Oklahoma 63, Texas 14 - October 2000, Dallas, Texas. At 42-0 at the end of the first half, this game was the most lop-sided Red River Rivalry played. Watch Video Highlights.

1. Oklahoma 13, Florida State 2 - January 3, 2001, Orange Bowl, Miami, Florida. Why? Because this battle between the only two unbeaten teams in college football gave Oklahoma its seventh national championship. Watch Video Highlights.
