From the [Chickasha, OK] Express Star, Grady County's [OK] News Source...
The Grady County Junior High Tournament tipped off Monday at Rush Springs with six first-round games. With Dibble not participating, top-seeded Amber-Pocasset drew a bye in both the girls and boys brackets but everyone else was out on the floor.
Ninnekah’s girls got it started with a 30-26 win over Alex. Ninnekah’s Paige McCathern and Alex’s Ann Davenport each had 11 points and Dahlly Goodson had ten for the Lady Owls.
From the Alex point of view: A heartbreaking loss to a team that Ann's squad had beaten during three previous outings proved that hard practice over Christmas break is absolutely imperative. Ann and Paige engaged in a down-low battle that no doubt foretells more epic ones to come. Paige is a freshman, 15, and Ann is a 14 year-old eighth grader. Paige's team (Ninnekah) had specifically practiced to take on Ann's team (Alex) during the first round of the Grady County Jr. High basketball tournament. That practice paid off. Down by six with six seconds left on the game clock, Ann's coach screamed for the team to clear the court and get the ball to Ann. As the buzzer sounded a loss, Ann stuck a fine jumper from the outside the lane, closing the lead to four respectable points. She felt redeemed. Video highlights of this game are posted on the video page.
